Granulator Machines

Granulators are machines that are used to break down materials, such as plastic products, so they can be recycled*.

*Did you know that survey reports say that discarded bottles, bags, packaging and other plastic represent as much as 40% of solid waste that is thrown out by people across the country.

Used Blackfriars mdl 30/60 granulator.

Unfortunately as plastic is not biodegradable it means that recycling is the only option to reducing the amount of plastic in landfills.

How does a granulator work?

A granulator basically operates like a large shredder. It turns bottles, bags and other plastic materials into little pellets or granules hence the namegranulator. The granules are then sold on to manufactures or molders who will use the recycled raw materials to make other plastic materials.

Aside from aluminium and glass, plastic is the only other material that can be reproduced into new items that are the same quality as the original item.

Granulators must be kept clean in order to work efficiently, and keep their resale value. They require regular maintenance to oil the blades of the plastic granulator, and the inside chamber needs to be wiped clean regularly.

Cutting chambers of a granulator:

This is a “super–tangential” cutting chamber that has a 3-blade open rotor which is the preferred setup for items such as bottles and containers. It is also effective for large quantities of runners, small parts and film scrap.

This is called a “tangential” cutting chamber which has a 5-blade open rotor and is best for shredding sheet, thicker-walled parts, large quantities of shredded material and film scrap. An additional fixed knife for increased capacity is shown in yellow.

Things To Look Out for in 2014

We are happy to announce that, even in an economic downturn, Perry Process Equipment Ltd had a successful business year in 2013. We had an increase in profits, hit our sales targets, employed new staff and acquired high quality stock. We have also created new relationships within the industry to strengthen our position as the largest global dealer of quality used process equipment.
We are going to strive to make 2014 a successful year for ourselves and our customers.
1. In the first week of business in 2014, our Buyer Paul Cook visited sites in Ireland and Norway in order to purchase more high quality equipment to bring stock into our 50,000 sq.ft warehouse facility. Once this equipment reaches our site we will notify our subscribers. Click here to subscribe to our weekly broadcasts!
2. This year, we will feature in all four editions of Elements magazine, as a member of Chemicals North West. We will keep readers up-to-date on offers, potential funding and current news. To sign up to receive a copy of Elements magazine, click here.
3. If you have any upcoming projects in 2014, contact us directly for any advice you require or questions you may have. You may be able to receive funding for your project if:
  • You are an existing HSBC customer and you are wanting to purchase an asset but lack a sufficient deposit, and
  • You are creating additional employment or you will retain jobs that could have otherwise been lost within 12 months.

4. Perry looks to the future - Perry understands that internships and apprenticeships have the potential to create a wealth of new talent within UK businesses, whilst giving young people the work experience and training that they need to grow within the industry. This year, we are taking on an intern, so that they can gain valuable experience as part of their Business course. We also currently employ an apprentice in our Engineering department.

5. Perry’s training programme – Perry understands that the success of its business depends on having a good training program for its employees. Everyone is encouraged to partake. Even our MD is studying French to enable better business connections with our French customers and partners. This year, our Marketing team will partake in staff training to gain extra qualifications in Marketing. Our admin staff are continuing their training in IT to gain their ECDL. Our Engineering department staff will also continue their training in Engineering.

6. Perry continue to raise money for Butterwick Hospice – Last year, Perry raised over £300 for Butterwick Hospice Care, a local charity that helps children and adults living with a life limiting illness. Perry Process Equipment is now an official Butterwick corporate sponsor! Throughout 2014, the staff at Perry Process will continue to raise funds for this worthy charity by partaking in organised events and hosting our own fundraising day. Watch out for our updates. You can also partake in events yourself. View all of Butterwick’s future events here.

7. Perry exhibits globally – We are exhibiting at three exhibitions this year:

§  Plant & Asset Managment, Birmingham, April

§  Expoquimia, Barcelona, September

§  POWTECH, Germany, October

If you are already set to attend or would like to attend any of these exhibitions then please let us know. We can arrange an appointment with you prior to the exhibition and advise you of free ticket offers.
8. Perry teaches the next generation - In June, staff at Perry Process will welcome a class of students from a local school to our Newton Aycliffe site. The children are studying science in the classroom but their visit to Perry Process will enable them to see how the experiments they perform translate into real-world situations.
9. Perry expands with new facilities – This month, Perry Process have the builders in! We are expanding our main office as well as building a new state-of-the-art conference room to host meetings with our customers.

We would like to thank our customers for their business in 2013 and we are looking forward to working with everyone in 2014.
