Perry Get Involved in Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday 12th December 2014 the staff at Perry Process will be donning their best Christmas jumpers to raise money for Save the Children, whose Christmas Jumper Day is now in its 3rd year! The staff will be wearing their Christmas jumpers for the day and making a donation. Perry’s fund raising will contribute to Save The Children’s life saving work around the world – from Syria to South Sudan, Brazil to Bangladesh.
Save The Children helped 15.4 million children through their work in 2013 and through their Christmas Jumper Day have raised £1.6 million to date. Just £2 could pay for potentially life saving antibiotics to treat three babies with infections. This year funds raised will go even further as every pound raised is to be matched by the UK government.

Perry become members of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses

Perry Process have recently become members of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB).

The ORB is specifically for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).  Becoming a member demonstrates our commitment to the following:

“We pledge to operate our business in an honest and ethical manner; to consider people and the environment when making business decisions; and endeavour to make a positive contribution to the local community and society at large.”

What it means to Perry

We joined the ORB because we are aware that business decisions can affect the planet and the wider society.  It's fair to say that Perry are just getting started, but we see joining the ORB as our first step in contributing towards a sustainable future.

All members of the ORB have taken and passed the Responsible Business Questionnaire. We found this process to be very thought provoking, and it helped to highlight the areas for improvement, and to set our agenda going forward.

Responsible Activities

The ORB have grouped responsible activities in to 5 key areas, as follows:

1. Workplace.
Focusing on good working conditions, as well as providing staff development and training opportunities.

2. Environment.
Being aware of how much impact our business actions have on the environment.  Looking to make changes to improve such as recycling paper, waste disposal, water and heating savings.

3. Community.
Considering the needs of the local community and choosing local suppliers where possible to support the local economy.

4. The Marketplace.
Behaving responsibly towards suppliers and customers.

5. Values and Transparency.
Operating in an open, honest and transparent way with all stakeholders.

About ORB:

ORB was established in 2009. It is committed to providing the following services to SMEs throughout the UK.

Information and signposting to SUPPORT and SIMPLIFY participation in this new but now essential responsible business paradigm;
Helping members INCREASE PROFITS - an added bonus of making voluntary responsible business improvements;
PROMOTING responsible business members via its associated online directory -www.TheResponsibleBusinessDirectory.co.uk

Perry Staff Donate Toys To The Butterwick Hospice

The staff at Perry Process have been busy collecting new toys for the children at the Butterwick Hospice.

Butterwick Toy Donation

The items collected will be used as Christmas gifts for the children at the hospice, as well as their siblings.

Perry normally hold a Christmas buffet and raffle to raise additional funds for the charity, however this year they decided to do something a little different, and came up with the toy donation idea.

Susan from Marketing handing
over the toys to Tracy

When Tracy Bowstead from the Butterwick called by to collect the items from Perry Process she explained how donations like the toys help in so many ways.  If items cannot be used by the children in the hospice, they will be used by the sibling support groups, as raffle/tombola prizes, or sold in the Butterwick retail shops.

The Butterwick Hospice care for people of all ages with a life limiting illness.  Their care is not only to those diagnosed with the illness, but as support to their families also.

Visit the 'What You Can Do' section of their website for fundraising ideas and ways you can help.

Colleague Skydives for Charity

On Sunday the 13th of September our colleague Maria Crawford jumped out of plane at 10,000 feet in a tandem skydive to raise money for the Butterwick Hospice!

Maria chose the Butterwick Hospice as they are a local charity that help people living with a life limiting illness, relieving symptoms, enriching patient's lives and supporting them and their loved ones.

The day proved to be perfect conditions for the jump. Clear blue skies meant Maria had a good view coming down!

This was her first ever skydive, but we don’t think it will be her last.
Maria said: "It was absolutely awesome.  Highly recommend it to anyone and I really fancy doing another one sometime”.

Maria raised £505 for the Butterwick Hospice.

Well done Maria!

Perry Process Equipment Ltd is a Corporate Supporter of the Butterwick Hospice and individual members of staff are continuously
raising funds throughout 2014 by taking part in many of the Butterwick events.
To date we have raised £772. You can donate on our Perry Process JustGiving page.

Perry Process Equipment is saving money & energy

With rising energy bills, we are all becoming much more aware of how much energy we actually use, and how much it costs.

At home as well as at work, we are thinking more about turning lights off in rooms that are unoccupied, switching to energy saving bulbs and installing meters that monitor our energy use in order to save as much money as possible on our bills.

Perry Process Equipment Warehouse

Perry Process Equipment looked at ways we could save money and energy within our premises.

In December 2013 we upgraded our warehouse lighting, replacing our 400W sodium lamps with 32 LED lamps.

This change is going to save us 75% on electricity and reduce our maintenance costs, which will save us up to £4, 000 per year.

It’s not just about saving money

Okay, saving money is very much the main factor as to why we turn lights off and switch our bulbs to energy saving ones.  But we must remember that lighting does also impact on the environment in a number of ways
including energy usage, the materials used to produce lighting products, and light's impact on the night time sky. For example, energy-efficient lighting demands less electricity, which reduces polluting power plant emissions.

The changes we have made to our lighting system is going to reduce our carbon footprint by over 8 tonnes per year.

Efficient use of lighting to save more

According to the Carbon Trust website, up to 40% of a building's electricity use is accounted for by lighting, while the right level and quality of light improves the alertness and accuracy of those working in it.

Here are some useful tips on using lighting more efficiently:

Number of lights
One of the best ways of saving energy is by simply reducing the quantity of lights you use, and to switch lights off when they are not required.

Natural Day Light
We can all make the best use of natural lighting in the daytime.  Sitting closer to a window can save you switching the light on at all, or until later in the day.  This will most definitely save money and energy.

Lighting Sensors
Lighting sensors are a very smart way to save energy as they only operate lights when they are required and will automatically switch off when not.

Fluorescent Bulbs
If you are currently using the thick T-12 and T-10 fluorescent tubes then you could swap to the T-8 or T-5 tubes. Using smaller tubes will save you up to 10-40% of energy used in lighting.

Paul Chatt and Nigel Thornton have gained City & Guilds certificates in Electrotechnical Technology. Nigel is also currently studying towards a HNC qualification in Engineering. Three other staff at Perry have B.TEC Diplomas in Operations and Maintenance Engineering. The Managing Director is a Chartered Electrical Engineer.

Case Study:
This year, we have refurbished and sold a 1,500Ltr stainless steel ribbon blender to Sticky Baits, UK. The unit was inspected before refurbishment began.

The unit was given a full mechanical strip down and then shot blasted in our purpose built facility. Following this, the unit was primed with a zinc-phosphate primer, as per the customer’s request. Our Engineering Team replaced all seals, bearings and lubricants and checked the integrity of all mechanical parts. Once completed, a new frame was constructed and the unit was reassembled. A full test run was carried out whilst witnessed by the customer.

Sticky Baits, UK statement:
“The Ribbon blender was refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and was barely recognisable from the blender that we first viewed. Exceptional service and work from start to finish, Thanks!”

Selling Your Surplus Process Equipment

When equipment becomes surplus to requirements selling it to a reliable used process equipment partner will always provide a greater return than simply scrapping the item.

Your selling options with Perry Process Equipment

A reliable partner such as Perry Process Equipment can assist with all aspects of disposal, allowing you to concentrate on your core business whilst maximising your asset realisation.  We offer the following selling options to our customers:
  • Outright Purchase

Things to consider when selling your surplus equipment

We've put together some brief points to consider when selling your surplus process equipment. These points should hopefully help you to gain the maximum return on your assets.

  1. Documentation. If possible, sell your equipment with its technical documentation, service history, drawings etc. as this is what most buyers will look for.
  2. Spares. If you have any spares, include them with the equipment.  This will be a big bonus for anyone looking to purchase the unit, knowing they won't need to buy any at an additional cost.
  3. Removal. Make sure that the removal of equipment is done correctly to avoid damage to your equipment.
  4. Show it offTake some clear photographs to show its current condition. This will help to get you a realistic offer price. Take internal and external photographs including nameplates, inlet and outlet points etc.
  5. Trade In. Are you selling in order to upgrade? Perry offer the option to trade in your surplus assets against the cost of purchasing an item from our stock.
